A black fustian loose gown
This loose gown is made of a cotton-linen blend and trimmed with soutache
and shoulder tabs in the manner of
the loose gown on pp. 98-9 of Arnold's Patterns of Fashion 1560-1620
but with the standing collar more common
to earlier gowns and without the pocket or hem slit detail of the original.
The sleeves are cut in two pieces and have soutache
down the front and back seams. The purchased buttons, wrapped soutache over
a probably plastic core, fasten with cord loops.
