With this wardrobe, I can camp for eight days without washing clothes. Instructions for making many
of these garments can be found in Mistress Drea's wonderful book The
Well Dress'd Peasant: 16th Century Flemish Workingwomen's Dress (by
Drea Leed). The collection includes a few items that are borrowed from
my Elizabethan wardrobe.
The pieces:
-one Elizabethan chemise with square neckline and full sleeves
-six Flemish chemises, some with square necklines and some with round
-two shirts with band collar and ruff
-five pleated petticoats
-two v-necked Flemish partlets
-one high-necked Flemish partlet
-two ruffed Flemish partlets
-one cream woolen German gollar (similar in shape to the black woolen
Flemish partlets)
-one green linen square-necked kirtle, laced up both sides
-blue, rust, and terracotta linen kirtles, laced up one side
-one brown woolen square-necked kirtle, laced up the side backs
-one pale green cotton square-necked kirtle, hooked up the center front
-one vintage Renfaire gown, laced up the front
-one red linen jacket fastened with hooks and eyes (worn with a petticoat)
-one hemp canvas underbodice or light corset to wear under jacket--jacket could also be worn over a kirtle
-one woolen Flemish overgown, reversible tan and rust
-one pair of brown woolen Flemish sleeves
-one pair green woolen Flemish sleeves
-one pair of brown woolen Italian sleeves
-one brown apron
-one blue apron
-one cream apron
-six pairs white linen stockings
-one pair red woolen stockings
-one pair black linen stockings
-four pairs of linen drawers (and biker shorts to fill in until I make some more drawers!)
-one embroidered brown round cap
-four white round caps
-four white Elizabethan-style coifs
-one simpler coif for sleeping in on chilly nights
-one straw hat
-one pair leather shoes
